Call us crazy, but balconies are among the few spaces in a home, that has an air of romanticism to them. They can be one of the most intimate areas where you can get your thinking done, gaze out into the view ahead, or sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee in the rain. If you also feel like you need a space where you can do all these things, and have one already, but don’t know how to do it up, this post is for you – we’re writing about some balcony decoration ideas which can make your space more personalized for you:
Use it as a meditation area
In one of our previous articles, we had described how you can pick any spot in your house, and convert it into a safe and comfortable place to gather your thoughts and feel relaxed. The balcony can be a good contender for a meditating space – given that it already has the open air and ventilation that you require. An area rug or a mini carpet along with a few low stools for seating, and some plants can help in achieving that tranquil space you need at the end of a hectic day.
Make a mini-garden
Your balcony is the perfect place to give your green thumb a chance. Since it’s the only ‘outdoors’ that you get, especially in city apartments, it’s a great opportunity to indulge in gardening. You can get succulents for window ledges, the bigger standing pots for the floor, and if you have lesser floor space – hanging pots. It’s also a known trend to harvest organic herbs in balconies, like thyme, basil, cilantro and rosemary to name a few. Get a few pots of hibiscus, lavender, anthurium and jasmine and your soul can speak in flowers.
Have a tea party for one
Literally, the simplest way to make your balcony a cosy place to enjoy is to add seating and a table – which can give you those much needed 15-20 minutes in the morning or evening to drink your tea or coffee, journal, or read. Furlenco has a lovely balcony package that provides you with a delightful table and set of two chairs.
Use the walls
When it comes to compact living spaces, the only way forward is upward. When your balcony has less floor area, go vertical – use the walls in your balcony to hang up asymmetric picture frames or wall planters. Another way to spruce up the walls is to paint them in a bright colour and add floating shelves where you can keep your books or other nicknacks.
Brighten the mood
We’ve all had those late nights, life-changing balcony conversations at 2 AM. Make your balcony a lounging place where you can sit down and relax with your friends, significant other, or even yourself, by jazzing it up with mood lighting.
Take note that even the smallest of spaces can be transformed – it depends on what you choose to convert the space into, and which decoration elements you will go ahead with.
